Procurement Engineer

Join our dynamic organization as a procurement engineer, where you will be the key person ensuring that all suppliers involved in raw material and equipment supply meet the glass plant's strict quality, performance and sustainability standards. The role focuses on the technical (and tactical) purchase of raw materials, products, components and services within different technical domains. With a critical mindset, you will closely evaluate our suppliers in cullet, silica sand, soda ash, limestone and specialized spare parts for our furnaces, forming machines and packaging lines. You will play a key part in bridging engineering with procurement and suppliers, while finding the right balance between quality, cost, delivery and potential risks.
Responsibilities & Key Tasks
Support engineering & production
- Develop and maintain a supplier quality management system aligned with ISO 9001 and the facility’s internal quality framework
- Define and control vendor performance indicators (On-Time Delivery, PPM rate, NCR frequency, technical compliance)
- Collaborate with production and maintenance engineers and production teams to validate supplier process capability for critical materials such as cullet, sand, and refractory components
- Conduct root cause analyses for supplier non-conformities and follow up on corrective and preventive actions (8D methodology)
- Support technical and procurement teams during new supplier onboarding—evaluate process controls, test samples, and ensure alignment with technical data sheets
Supplier evaluation/audit
- Implement structured vendor qualification and requalification programs
- Support and execute supplier audits covering raw material quality, process stability, traceability, and environmental compliance (REACH, ISO 14001)
- Maintain a vendor scorecard system and organize together with your team regular supplier performance reviews
- Work with stakeholders in and outside the Supply Chain & Procurement department to include quality clauses, inspection standards, and escalation protocols in supplier contracts
- Liaise with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure material traceability and manage blocked stock procedures
- Support continuous improvement initiatives such as supplier development projects and cost-of-non-quality reduction programs
- Signal risks in our delivery chain and design imrovement plans to tackle these
- Support the engineering department in make-or-buy decision process
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or Quality Management
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in supplier quality, procurement
engineering, or process control in a manufacturing setting; glass, ceramics, or metals industry preferred - Deep knowledge of incoming inspection processes, SPC techniques, and supplier risk assessment tools
- Experience interpreting technical drawings and material specifications
- Proficiency in ERP (SAP preferred), MS Excel, and quality tools such as FMEA, PPAP, 8D, and control plans
- Strong command of English and Dutch, German is an advantage
- Familiarity with EU and Belgian quality and environmental regulations
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with technical depth
- Ability to lead audits and influence supplier process improvements
- Structured, data-driven, and results-oriented working style
- Cross-functional collaboration and problem-solving capability
